Biography:
Sam is the youngest child of John and Mary Winchester. When Sam is six months old his mother dies in a strange fire that sends John on the road with Sam and his older brother Dean. John is convinced a demon killed Mary and he raises his sons to fight things like demons, vampires and witches. It's a life being raised by his brother and living out of hotels and their car. In 2004, Sam decides he's had enough and applies to Ivy University in Gotham.
When he reveals his plans to his father and brother, John explodes at Sam demands he choose between his family and a normal life. Sam chooses a normal life and makes top grades in both college and law school. There is one moment where his brother hunts him down and asks him to return to the hunting life to help their father, but Sam turns him down choosing again to focus on a normal life. He joins the DA's office in Starling City after law school feeling drawn to help people who are struggling.
In 2012, when rumors of a vigilante known as the Hood start popping up, Sam is one of the few who doesn't laugh. He knows heroes can come from anywhere and while he doesn't like the idea of killing people he can understand fighting for those you love. He starts feeling like he could do more to help, but knows if he did his carefully crafted new life could fall apart if his past was revealed.
The night of the Undertaking, however, Sam gets stuck in the Glades after visiting a witness and sees the Hood for himself as he helps save trapped people with Sam. This event intensified Sam's need to do more, but he knows if he uses his more "physical" skill set it could risk his job.Six months later, a hacker known as the Actuary appears to be causing trouble. But when people start digging they realize the Actuary actually is acting as a modern day Robin Hood, using the data and money they are stealing to help those in need.
Still hacking is hacking and Sam may be moving closer and closer into the Arrow/Hood orbit for all the wrong reasons and it may be his hunter skills may be needed in the future normal life or no.
Personality:
Sam is an awkward in his own skin type who hides behind a mask of confidence. He is passionate about helping the downtrodden often taking the cases no one else in the DA's office will take. He's loyal and passionate, but extremely secretive. Because of his past Sam is afraid people will judge him or at the worst call him a murderer without trying to understanding that he isn't that man anymore.
Sam does have a temper but it is the slow burning type. It takes a lot for him to explode but when he does it's epic. He rages like a mad man and will often get into fights to just blow off the emotional steam it can leave behind. Sam doesn't like how he feels when he explodes so he does everything he can to stay calm so that he doesn't hurt himself or someone else.
His biggest weakness is his low self worth, if Sam thinks people dislike him, he hates himself even more. He chooses to see himself as a big dumb giant who can't do anything right, feels each and every one of his failures deep in his heart. He carries them like other people carry their successes. He never forgets and he has yet to forgive himself. This makes it difficult for Sam to make decisions and it often takes him long time to figure out what the right thing to do is and he hates himself just a little bit more.
Sam loves his family, but he doesn't not love what they do. He knows part of the reason he and his brother are distant is because Sam has chosen to live a different life. But Sam knows it's important. to be there when his brother might need him most so he's done his best to keep the lines of communication open if Dean wants to use them. Family in all it's forms is the most important thing a Winchester has.
